1. Here are just a few of the ways in which Starmer’s Labour Party seems determined to alienate its voters and lose the next election. As they pile up, you have to keep pinching yourself and asking, “what the hell is it playing at?” 🧵 2. The astonishingly cruel treatment of people in poverty, including: a. maintaining the outrageous two-child benefit cap, a Malthusian policy extreme even by Tory standards – and suspending Labour MPs who sought to scrap it. 3. b. freezing Local Housing Allowance, making decent housing even less accessible to people on housing benefit - while simultaneously refusing to introduce rent controls. c. identifying disability benefits and personal independence payments as major targets for cuts. 4. Slavishly appeasing the rich, including abandoning its plans to tax non-doms more firmly, due to “concerns … raised by the non-dom community.” Sorry, but wtaf even is a “non-dom community”? The whole point of being a non-dom is to secede from the community. theguardian.com

5. Sustaining the most extreme anti-protest measures in any allegedly-democratic country. You could even start to believe that Labour finds it convenient to criminalise protest and send peaceful dissenters to jail for years. 6. Taunting, insulting and abusing anyone who cares about life on Earth and a habitable planet, while ripping up environmental commitments and accelerating destruction. This includes a. airport expansion; b. new trunk roads; c. attacks on the planning system; d. more river-killing chicken factories; 7. e. freeports; f. constant briefing that it wants to approve the Rosebank and Jackdaw oil fields; g. packaging a new fossil fuel project, that will greatly increase emissions, as a “carbon capture and storage” programme, to be built at vast public expense. 8. Waging war on what remains of our public protections: you know, all that horrid “red tape” that might have stopped people being torched in tower blocks, rivers being poisoned by sewage, customers getting ripped off, financial systems collapsing … 9. Burying the long-standing promise of proportional representation, alongside other democratic reforms. 10. Dismissing any prospect of rejoining the Single Market or Customs Union, despite widespread public demand and Bregret, and the urgent need to form strong global alliances in the face of Trump, Putin and many other threats. 11. Adopting Reform’s messages, Reform’s branding and Reform’s cruelty, to compete over who can most brutally beat up asylum seekers. Because competing with the far right always works out so well for centrist parties, doesn’t it? Forgive my French (and German, Italian, Swedish etc) but FFS! 12. There’s still time to stop this nonsense, start listening to those who voted for it and start behaving like a Labour Party. But unless we see a rapid and decisive turnaround, Labour’s vast majority is going to turn into one of the most spectacular routs in UK political history. 13. That's great news for Vichy Nige, terrible news for anyone who gives a damn about this country, about other people, the living world, fairness, equality, kindness etc. Under Starmer, the Labour government is currently in a self-imposed death spiral. The time to pull out is now. The thread on one page: skywriter.blue
