Good morning crew! We're back bringing you live updates from today's #tnuc panels. First up is a solo panel with @therealcononeill.bsky.social 🏴‍☠️💕 #ofmd Q: If you're on a desert island and had to bury 5 DVDs, which would they be? Con: Jaws, Y tu mamá también, Raging Bull, Life of Brian, Sound of Music is the perfect musical film but Wicked is fucking good guys. It's done the impossible - taken something so theatrical and made it work on film. Q: What's your favorite fan theory? Con: As in fanfic? I don't read them. I started reading on a bus and realized if anyone was reading this over my shoulder, I'd be arrested. With the fanfiction, that's yours as opposed to mine and I don't want to go to hell where most of you are going. Q: There's going to be a sequel to Buffy the Vampire Slayer. What would you want to play? Con: A vampire. I'd like to play a vampire who enjoys being a vampire, not one riddled with self doubt and hate. If you're going to be evil, be evil. Q: Tell us about a time everything went to shit and you hated it? Con: There's a play called "Prick Up Your Ears". I was asked to take over a role. Not only did I not know what the punchline was but I didn't have a clue about anything. When it came to me I went [GIBBERISH]. The shame I felt. Q: Who are your favorite standup comedians? Con: I'm not a big standup fan, it's not my thing. I love a comedian. I love a sitcom. I think Steve Carrell is genius. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are some of the greatest humans who have ever existed. Q: What is an ideal day off for you? Con: Bed, cuddles, dog walk, bed, cook some food, more cuddles, movie, bed, cuddles. In between all of that there is coffee. Q: Do you have a favorite live gig that you've ever seen? Con: I saw Stevie Wonder at Hyde Park which blew my mind. Earlier than that, I saw Bruce Springsteen do his gig at Hyde Park and...yeah. That's a god. Q: What sort of a hobby might you take up? Con: We just decked our garden. My dad was a joiner and I think I have his gift. I'm quite handy with DIY. We might start being a bit more proactive in that. I'm rarely home though so when I am home, all I want to do is cuddle. Q: In honor of pride month, is there a piece of queer media that you really enjoy? Con: I will always watch anything Russell T. Davies does because I know I'm going to be represented. What Russell does so beautifully is he doesn't make programs about queer shame. "What I hate is pretending that we're making queer shows when we're not - we're making queer shame. I want shows to show us that people can have happy lives and relationships. We are getting somewhere with that." - @therealcononeill.bsky.social "We are doing shows that represent us as powerful, interested, well-rounded, happy people. So more of that, please. It's a really exciting time for queer art makers. We've created a way of expressing ourselves that is really been accepted and embraced." @therealcononeill.bsky.social "The reason [queer media has] been accepted and embraced is we're not living in our shame anymore. I'm a happy queer man and I wan to see that represented in shows. I see you. The world sees us and let's show them it's ok being queer." @therealcononeill.bsky.social "Our movement [the queer movement] is the most powerful and successful political movement of all time. Keep pushing forward, don't let the fuckers get you down. We're right." @therealcononeill.bsky.social Q: What did you learn about yourself during the filming of #OFMD and from the fandom's reception of the show? Con: That I rock leather pants and that I need to be visible as a queer man. That's what the fandom taught me and that wasn't necessarily my plan but I couldn't not be. "Queer youth need you now more than ever. Protect them. Speak up for them. Be the person for them you needed growing up. We've been here before, we'll be here again. We can't expect them to do it for us. You've got to be the community. You don't have a choice." @therealcononeill.bsky.social Con: Look out for each other. Be an ally. Be queer and proud. Be trans and proud. Be an ally. And even if you're having quibbles within your community, depend on your community because that's all you've got. And be angry! Use your voice. But remember sometimes it's just about giving someone a hug. Q: What non-OFMD characters are you excited to see get recognition? Con: Val in Uncle. She's glorious, she's a trailblazer. She has a line that says "I refuse to change who I am." That should be emblazoned on all our souls. Con: I'm obsessed with Joe Meek. Someone came up to me recently and said "you're obviously gay, why don't you play more gay characters?" and I said "you're obviously not paying attention." Q: In Time Bandits you played the Sheriff of Nottingham. Has #OFMD given you more confidence in playing comedic roles? Con: Yes, absolutely but what gave me more confidence was having the brilliant directors shouting lines at me. And being in the room with Lisa Kudrow. She's a fucking genius. Q: If your younger teenage self could see yourself now, what would he think? Con: The first thing he'd say is "double denim? no." He'd be proud, he'd be relieved. I think he'd be proud...I mean. Look at these tits. Q: Is there a character from existing media you'd love to play? Con: I was asked to play Willy Loman in Death of a Salesman and I thought was I too young but I'd love to do that now. I'd love to do a vampire, I'd love to experience that because it's just so sexy. Q: What's your Mastermind topic? Con: Jaws. Q: Is there anything you'd want to change about Izzy's costume? Con: No!! As a queer man in his 50s, to have never worn leather pants is quite a thing! The first time I ever put them on was in the fitting! I loved Izzy's costume, it felt like a glove. Q: Now that you're living in LA more, what's one thing you love and hate? Con: I love the weather and hate the weather. I love the food, the community. I know enough people there to not be lonely. I love Mexican food. It's an experience! Q: What do you think the conversation between Izzy and Jack might have been like when Jack was asked by Izzy to take Ed off the ship? Con: It would be very drunk and just because Jack says it doesn't make it true. There's a relationship there that's quite complex between those two. #ofmd Q: Did you take anything from set? Con: I didn't because we didn't know we'd been canceled! Izzy's costume had become so complicated because of the leg. I'm very good about saying goodbye to characters at the end of shoots. If I could have taken anything it would have been the ship. #ofmd And that's a wrap on Con! David Fane and Ruibo Qian are up next.
