đŸ§”Kid got covid Feb 2024. It was very mild, fever of 38.5C. Sore throat for a day. But then, he kept getting recurring sore throats every other week for 3 months. And then he raced other kids one day & everything went to hell. Absence seizures, bed bound kind of fatigue, tremors, 1/x

Imagine the parents of chronically ill children who realized that they were lied to when they were told that Covid was mild in children, and even that it was good for their immune systems. They are gonna be enraged. 5/

Rashes all over, shortness of breath, chest pains, couldn’t recognize the letter ‘x’, difficulty with left vs. right, forgot memories that he used to bring up all the time, joint pain. Went to see paediatricians - told that he needs to go to the somatic clinic. It’s in his head 2/x Was told that he just needed to live with chronic issues and to go back to school. Every paediatrician I saw didn’t care about his health, only cared that he was in school for his ‘’mental health”. 3/x My kid was livid when the doc said school was good for his mental health cuz of social interactions. My kid: How is it good for my mental health when I can barely sit & pay attention cuz I’m in pain? How is it good for friends when I am too tired to move & my friends run off to play soccer? 4/x One time, a nurse told him (when he was out of my sight cuz it never occurred to me to not trust a nurse), that he needed to listen to his body and to stop listening to his mom and his physio. His physio was from the long covid clinic and she told him to pace. 5/x She told him it was in his head. I only found out cuz my kid was so upset that he told me that he hated her. I asked him how he felt and he started crying. In the name of mental health, they f*cked with my kid’s mental health by gaslighting him. Kids will remember this when they are older 6/x I spent the summer of 2024 hoping that he could go back to school regularly, but by mid-August when he was having absence seizures, I realized it wasn’t realistic. So i made the very hard decision to homeschool him. The paediatrician YELLED at me for it saying that I am harming my child. 7/x Guess what? After a year of this, i can tell you it was THE BEST decision for him. On days where he was too tired or in a crash, he slept in. He did not miss any school and ended up ahead academically. We signed him up for short in-person classes with friends & made homeschool friends. 8/x We also listened to the long covid clinic’s physio & found an adult doc who gave advice that we listened to as well. My kid is mostly recovered. He still has difficulty with recognizing his left vs. right, & needs to pace more than he used to prior to Covid. But he’s one of the lucky ones. 9/x When I think about how aggressively those paediatricians 1) refused to help him other than telling him it is in his head and 2) told me homeschooling would harm him, I feel sorry for other long covid kids with less stubborn parents. They won’t get the help they need. They will be harmed. 10/x Let me repeat this: If I had listened to those paediatricians, my kid would be doing WORSE. Their advice was to gaslight my child (worsening his mental health) and to go back to school (not allowing him the rest that he needed). This needs to stop. The kids need help. REAL help. 11/x I was very fortunate because I was already part of a small community that kind of knew about covid. I have 2 friends who suffered through something similar when they were young
one got severely sick from a virus and only got better after taking a full year off from school. I listened to them. 11/x Sick kids and the Canadian paediatric society need to be held accountable. Whenever my kid sees a sick kids ad, he says: they are using kids w/ visible disability to raise money to harm kids w/ invisible disabilities. This is the legacy that Canadian paediatricians will be remembered by. 12/x FYI, he is back at school and his friends are ecstatic that he is back. He is also happy that he is back. It is short-sighted to ruin your health for your so-called ‘mental health’ when it ruins you both physically and mentally in the long-term. 13/x #longcovidkids #longcovid #maskup bsky.app
