Apparently, it’s totally cool to tell Jews what we really think and decide that you know more than your Jewish friends on Israel, Palestine, and Zionism because you’ve “listened to people online”. I will say this as many times as I need to, but other people don’t get to redefine Zionism for Jews. 1/ The longing to return to Israel is as old as the diaspora. The desire to have a safe home where we wouldn’t be killed is that old too. That’s what Zionism is. Before World War II many Jews questioned zionism. They thought it was an overreaction. 2/ They were certain that antisemitism would eventually stop in the modern era. So many European Jews had a assimilated. They thought they were safe. Than the holocaust happened and they found out how wrong they were. 3/ Please remember this was less than 100 years ago. Well, after the holocaust many more Jews agreed that the only way they’d ever be safe was to have a state of their own. (do you remember as well that almost no country would take in Jewish refugees pre-and post world war.) 4/ Do understand that even before the establishment of the Jewish state Arab people in the land that is now Israel violently refused to take Jews in (and attack those Jews, who had already moved there and established homes). They too said “no more Jews.” 5/ After the establishment of 🇮🇱, the country was attacked from all sides. By all sides, I mean the other countries that were there. The concept of 🇵🇸as a country independent of the other Arab states wasn’t yet a thing. This does not change the fact that Palestinians are a people. It’s just history. 6/ Almost immediately after this Jews across all Middle Eastern countries were attacked whether or not they supported the new Jewish state. Again, they had nowhere else to go but to isreal. The Jews of Ethiopia two were attacked. Isreal sent rescue missions to save them. 7/ All of this history leads us to where we are now. Half of the world’s Jewish population lives in Israel. There are almost no Jews left in any Middle Eastern country aside from Israel. Antisemitism remains rampant across the west, parts of Asia, and Africa. 8/ There are disgusting bigots, who call themselves Zionist. There are also many more peace, loving Israel and Jews, who call themselves Zionist and mean the term to just mean that they want a safe home. Many of them also support Palestinian statehood if there could be peace. 9/ Extreme Anti-Zionists describe anybody who doesn’t want isreal to be abolished as “Zionist”. If you care about Israeli safety, you are called as Zionist. So for all those people asking me to drop a word that we choose created for our own safety… maybe learn some history and listen to Jews 10/10
