Once again, I ask what anyone has seen, at this point, to make them really believe that the 2026/28 elections are going to be free, fair, & competitive. Who is going to stop Trump from simply declaring the results of blue states invalid for "pro-terrorist conduct" or some other invented reason?

Who will stop Mike Johnson & J.D. Vance from refusing to accept the credentials/certified election results from Reps & Senators in blue states in Jan 2027? This is a sincere question. Nothing we've seen so far suggests Article I is operating to constrain Trump at all senate.gov
Yes, of course, this may be a low probability event, the norms will hold, SCOTUS would step in, etc. etc. But the fact is, we're at the point of genuinely asking these questions, & they are not crazy questions, & they are deep signs that our constitutional order is not functioning on a basic level. If the president can simply rendition legal residents on a whim, & he can simply cut funding for anything he wants, & he can violate all of our treaty commitments, & he can monetize the presidency w/o consequence, then what exactly makes us believe that accepting election results is any different?
