"UK ‘built for climate that no longer exists’ and needs urgent changes to survive global heating, report warns" This is correct, but the imagined solutions are based on demonstrable logical fallacies, I've been desperately trying to explain for decades. theguardian.com 1/🧵

UK ‘built for climate that no longer exists’ and needs urgent changes to survive global heating, report warns

www.theguardian.com

There is only one way to avert climate and ecological catastrophe, and it isn't with air conditioning, planting different crops etc. That is pie in the sky BS. It is stopping the warming and ecological collapse by massively reducing emissions and fundamental system change. 2/ If we just carry on with business as usual BaU, and let it rip, there won't be any organized civilization to implement these sticking plaster, techno-fixes. The first year there are climate related food shortages, food hyperinflation, the whole BaU model will come crashing down. 3/ Plus, there is the not so small matter of AMOC collapse, which would make all these planned responses, moot and void. However, the real crisis of thinking, is that the UK does not live in a bubble, it is an inherent part of a global system, which will no longer exist in such a scenario. 4/ The modern BaU economy of economic growth, investment, financial trading, will be impossible in such a profoundly changed world, where we just take for granted our reliant on natural systems and ignore what we are doing to what we totally rely on. gov.uk 5/

Those fixated on economics, bizarrely think even if biodiversity and ecosystems collapse, that somehow our modern civilization based on this unsustainable economy, and societies reliant on this, will just carry on, with it being a bit sad we've lost the birds and butterflies. Just delusional. 6/ The primary fault of thinking here, is just because these clueless academics, don't think about the whole interconnectedness and interdependence of global ecosystems, and how they sustain our societies, economies, that this reality does not exist. It is fucking insane. 7/ Is there no one left, that is capable of holistic joined up thinking? This is a classic mistaking the map for the territory thinking error, where people promoted over their abilities, confuse their simplistic, mistaken imagining, of climate and ecological change, with what will actually happen. 8/
