The Princeton academics being bought up by BP and then producing propaganda for their corporate goals isn't unique. Google does it to many energy think tanks as well, and most recently did it with their work to push the claim that data center hyperscale loads are flexible. It casts a long shadow. Not a single sort of entity is immune because this behavior is so accepted in energy and utilities. DTE did it with one of the national labs to advance their CCS goals in California in the IRA years. I wonder how it feels to be a part of these organizations who produce research on demand, knowing they could just was easily be at McKinsey or something and paid 3x. Or if money isn't the issue how it feels to have one's integrity tied up with that kind of obvious foolishness. We live in a time when there needs to be actual consequences for corruption of trust and integrity. I know that's wishcasting at an institutional and structural level. It is also wishcasting at a social and interpersonal one.
