• Dr. Randa Abdel-Fattah was removed from the program of Adelaide Writers’ Week — part of the larger Adelaide Festival — after the festival’s board said her participation “would not be culturally sensitive” so soon after the Bondi Beach attack; • Dr. Abdel-Fattah strongly denounced the removal as censorship and anti-Palestinian racism, saying she had nothing to do with the Bondi tragedy and calling the decision a “blatant and shameless act”; • Up to 90 participants have withdrawn in protest, including Zadie Smith, Percival Everett, Michelle de Kretser, Greek economist/politician Yanis Varoufakis, Evelyn Araluen, Peter Greste, and many Australian writers/journalists such as Hannah Kent and Peter FitzSimons.
