1. One thing you need to realise about the British Establishment is that it uses clowns to express its deepest desires. People like Rod Liddle offer a kind of deniability - "lighten up, he's just having a laugh". But they deliver a closer representation of its truths than any sober editorial.

Meanwhile The Spectator is condoning the bombing of Brighton and Glastonbury I'm sure it will be a proscribed organisation any minute now...

2. They all chortle along, and then suddenly they mean it. This is what we saw when Boris Johnson became Prime Minister. It was still all one big laugh - cheer up, he isn't serious - then 200,000 people were dead with Covid. 3. Or when Kemi Badenoch put Toby Young in the House of Lords. Take it easy - she's just trolling the country again. Then you realise that he is now a legislator for life. 4. It's the clowning that kills us. It opens the door to the unacceptable, allowing it to spread into public life. Then suddenly you find it's real and it's serious. People like Rod Liddle perform an essential role in Establishment power. They are not an anomaly but an embodiment. The thread on one page: skywriter.blue
