2/ Writing from his jail for fallen Russian security officials, Girkin advises his readers to "quickly abandon hopes for optimistic scenarios for an end to the current systemic crisis (all of them – such scenarios – have already been consigned to the trash)." 3/ He portrays Russia as heading toward a 1917-style collapse or worse, warning against both naive optimism and naive nostalgia for warlord-style figures, while still holding onto a nationalist hope that dedicated people ("us") might shape the outcome.
