Trump’s repeated attacks and dangerous rhetoric targeting judges have created a climate where even the Supreme Court is expanding its security. Over the last year, Trump has referred to judges as “Radical Left Lunatics,” “Crooked Judges,” and “Trump-hating judges.” He has called for the impeachment of judges over rulings he disagreed with, attacked Judge James Boasberg as “Wacky, Nasty, Crooked, and totally Out of Control,” and even questioned whether Judge Gonzalo Curiel could be impartial because of his Mexican heritage. The Supreme Court is asking Congress for $6.5 million to begin planning a new visitor screening facility outside the Court building as threats against the justices continue to increase. If approved, visitors would be screened before entering the building, similar to the security system used at the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center.
